Work/School/Fun - ALL the Updates!
Hey everyone,
It's been a whirlwind few weeks, and I’m riding a high from all the exhilarating developments!
A heartfelt thank you to all of you for the incredible support on the podcast. The debut episode soared to #5 in the Career subcategory and #24 in Management on the podcast rankings - milestones that were once just specks on the horizon. Something I did not know 3 weeks ago is that podcasts make the charts only when they breach the top 250, so these figures are leaps and bounds beyond my wildest dreams.
Last week's episode continued our strong start, and I’d love to revisit some of the standout moments with you. If you haven’t tuned in yet, I've got you covered – click here to listen.
Podcast Episode Highlights: The Impact of Inclusive Leadership with Virginia Davis
Inclusive Leadership's Transformative Effect: Virginia recounted how a leadership style that appreciates diversity and prioritizes individuals was not just a professional shift but a life-changing personal journey for her.
Breaking the 'Golden Handcuffs': Our guest shared her courageous decision to leave a longstanding secure position for a path that aligned more closely with her values and aspirations for growth, demonstrating the courage to make significant life changes.
Catalysts for Change in the Workplace: We explored the concept of taking control by creating order in one's immediate environment, which Virginia adeptly related to both personal spaces and broader organizational contexts.
Authenticity in Leadership: The discussion emphasized how showing up authentically, in both good times and bad, can foster a culture of support and belonging, a point that resonated deeply with many listeners.
The Value of Alignment: Another highlight for many was Virginia's insight on aligning personal values with the organization's culture, an approach that has brought her fulfillment and success in her new endeavours.
Professionally, I had the honour of leading How to Fascinate Super-User training with a dynamic team from a national accounting consultancy in Delaware. It was an inspiring few days, helping them prepare to uncover the unique strengths of their diverse teams and unlock all that individual awesome so they can all accomplish more together.
On the academic front, the grades for my first course in the DBA program are in - and it is true, everything is going to be ok! I’ve now embarked on new learning adventures with courses on 'The Development of Management Theories and Practices' and 'Applied Research Design'. I’m in deep, feeling a mix of intimidation and exhilaration, but this is where I thrive – at the edge of comfort, where the magic happens. My studies are taking me through a variety of topics, from Indigenous Research Design to Supply Chain Resilience and navigating Poly-Crises. Daunting? Yes. Exciting? Absolutely.
Amidst this, I found time to let loose at this year’s Little Black Dress Party, a fundraiser for CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) hosted by my dear friend Pauline Koert. This fun night was a reminder of how fortunate I am to have a circle of support that keeps me grounded and uplifted.
As I continue to strive to infuse my days with consistency in studying and writing, – it's been over two weeks since my last update. My commitment to you is to bridge the gaps and share this journey more frequently.
Thanks for sticking with me through the thick of it.
And a quick reminder – I'm on the lookout for guests for the podcast. If you have insights on how leadership or a sense of belonging has shaped you, or if you're championing inclusive leadership in your workplace, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s connect!
Thank you!
Melissa
